Ballet teaches proper body placement, alignment, balance, and control. Students are taught proper terminology and ballet technique through exercises at the barre, across the floor and center floor. Ballet will help the student with body awareness, proper posture, coordination, agility, flexibility and overall strength. At Dancer Strong, we are primarily Cecchetti based. Ballet is recommended to be a part of every student’s dance training.
Tap is an exciting American art form that explores rhythm with the use of the feet. Students will be instructed in primarily Al Gilbert tap technique, terminology, rhythmic patterns and various tap combinations. Tap will help the student develop coordination, agility and an appropriate understanding of musicality and rhythm.
Jazz is a stylized and technical dance form that combines a ballet foundation with rhythmic music. Our classes emphasize placement, precision, strength, flexibility, and musicality. Students engage in proper warm-ups, stretching, and strength-building exercises, and learn essential jazz techniques such as turns, leaps, kicks, and floor work. Through sharp, controlled movements and choreography, students enhance their body awareness, coordination, agility, rhythm, and performance skills. Hip Hop is a street style of dance that is more widely used in music videos and commercials. Students are instructed in the history of the art form as well as a variety of hip hop styles, floor work and technique. Hip Hop will help the student with style, agility, coordination, strength and endurance.
The performance of extraordinary feats of balance, agility, and coordination. It is often found in the performing arts. This class is geared towards developing tumbling and acrobatic skills often used by dancers. With emphasis on flexibility, strength, balance, limbering, tumbling, basic contortion, partnering and group stunting for dancers.
Contemporary is an outgrowth of modern and ballet dance techniques. Contemporary heavily emphasizes a connection between the mind and the body, and often appears disordered but relies on proper technique. Contemporary is not necessarily narrative, and often incorporates improvisation, fall and recovery, and floor work. Students will be instructed in a brief history of the art form as well as proper terminology and technique.
Lyrical is an expressive form of dance that focuses on using simultaneously subtle and dynamic movement to convey musicality and emotion through movement. Lyrical is a combination of ballet and jazz techniques with influences from contemporary and modern. Students are instructed in connectivity of movement flowing each movement seamlessly from one to the next as well as using poetic expression to convey various emotions. Lyrical will help the student learn how to express their emotions through dance and will help the student develop more dynamic ways of performing.
